LA Weight Loss, Good Housekeeping.......More Diet Websites Reviewed
There are thousands of websites that offer all levels of advice, diet reviews, and diet programs. Viewing even a small portion takes weeks, even months. We've invested that time sorting through them so that you can spend a few short minutes checking out a brief write-up of the top ranked websites. For ratings at a glance see our chart..........Click
LA Weight Loss Centers ** 21 Points of 50 www.la-weightloss.com/ LA Weight Loss Centers seems to be built on the Jenny Craig model of opening centers thoughout the nation in an attempt to take advantage of America's weight problem. If the program is anything like the advice offered on the site, it resembles any article written in any magazine in any month. We're basing this on the tips found on the website like "hide the TV remote and get up to change the channels" and "park in the far corner of the supermarket lot". We feel that people with serious weigh loss issues need some thing that offers them some serious help.
If the counselors are well trained professionals, they may be able to offer individual help but the website seems to promote the products they sell as an intergral part of the program.
Seems
to be a part of the WebMD empire judging from the number of links and
shared materials. This site is meant to be the doctors speaking given
their tag line “We bring doctors knowledge to you.” They do a good job
of simplifying how weight gain and loss work, and the role energy and
calories play.
We also like that they have a wealth of
articles in their “A to Z” Guide that give factual data and go well
beyond the usual consumer weight loss articles. If you’re like us and
want to know what’s happening in the world of science regarding weight
loss, this is a great site. Don’t bother with the side bar articles,
go straight to the “A to Z” section and start reading. There’s a lot
of food for thought.
Good Housekeeping/Diet/Health ** 23 Points of 50 www.goodhousekeeping.com/health/ This
is the general website for the magazine “Good Housekeeping” whose
topics include recipes, house & home, beauty, family and money
topics as well as their section on diet and health. The diet portion
has what they refer to as a diet “Matchmaker” It is meant to allow you
to find the right diet for you. It allows you to compare diets but
actually just shows diet descriptions side by side in twos.
The
site also includes things like “games and quizzes” where you can test
your knowledge of things like teen slang, and how jealous you are,
although what these things have to do with dieting, we’re not sure.
The
site does offer diet advice, but it seems to be the sort you would
receive from supermarket tabloids. Things we all know like sleep more,
stress less, join a gym, eat fruits and vegetables. There doesn’t seem
to be any attempt to offer new research, a support system, or a reason
to visit this site more than once.
Another
large corporate site that again offer reviews of diets. All of the
popular diets are listed and the site does have a handy rating check
list that includes information like does it fill you up, is it
expensive and is it healthy. If you wanted to run through the
diets to consult this check list, you could get a good idea of a good
match for you, particularly if one of these issues is more important
than other others.
We also liked the multiple articles available
on latest research for a variety of health issues. These articles
would rate the site for return visits to explore latest findings.
