These are weight loss tips acquired from the combined years of our staff representing several lifetimes of losing and maintaining our weight. We have read just about every diet book ever published and between us, tried most of the weight loss plans.
Here are the things we know about staying slim.
1. Find a non-sugar sweetener (we recommend Stevia ordered from Herbal Advantage http://www.herbaladvantage.com/) and use it to sweeten:
- Plain Greek Yogurt with lemon or limejuice
- Organic Mint Green Iced Tea or other flavored teas
- Anything else you use sugar in
2. Find snack foods you love that aren’t calorie rich
- Kettle Corn in 100-calorie bags
- Greek yogurt with fruit and nonfat whip crème
- Organic whole grain waffles with fruit, yogurt, whip crème (nonfat)
- Skinny Cow ice cream bars, ice cream bars
- South Beach protein bars
3. If you eat Protein Bars only have one a day, they're loaded with calories and sugar.
4. Drink Iced Tea with Stevia, or find another non calorie healthy drink.
5. Eat bread or pasta only once a week.
6. Avoid the white stuff—flour, sugar, full fat dairy.
7. Eat more protein.
8. Find fruits and vegetables that you like.
9. Go to your local farmer’s market.
10. Weigh every day.
11. Eat five or six small meals a day. Eat when you get up in the morning.
12. Don’t keep anything around you would eat all of at 2 am.
13. If you must binge (we are not promoting binging, it is an eating disorder, but we all over-eat sometime), pick out something that doesn’t do too much damage. Eating so much yogurt you feel you’ll pop is better than finishing off an entire cheesecake.
14. Figure out what you like to do for physical exercise. Try them all. Dance, hip hop, machines, yoga, walking, anything that gets you moving. It can't be something you dread, it has to fit into life.
15. Accept that diets don’t work. You will have to change the way you eat forever.
16. Know in your heart that not being over weight is better than any cake, muffin, ice cream, or pasta.
Things We Tried and Couldn’t Do
1. Keep a food diary. Every site and guru praises the food diary and we don’t question that it works. But every time we’ve tried it, we just left out the stuff we weren’t suppose to eat.
2. We know we’re all “emotional eaters” but just saying it doesn’t stop it. Get help from a professional or go to Overeater’s Anonymous if you need to. There are people of all sizes and pain there that can help.
3. Almost all “100 Calorie” packs. Except popcorn, most of these are food that’s really bad for you and there’s never enough of it. If we’re watching calories, we make the sugar count-- we’re eating truffles. You can buy them one at a time.
That's the whole story. It is that easy. It's that hard. There's nothing magic about it except doing it!
P.S. We hate those people who can eat anything they want and not gain weight, too.
